Provenance, terms and conditons
[1][pts] "Monks, without abandoning six things, one is incapable of entering and remaining in the first jhāna.
Which six?
Sensual desire, ill will, sloth and drowsiness, restlessness and anxiety, uncertainty, and one has not seen well, with right discernment — as they have come to be — the drawbacks of sensuality.[1]
Without abandoning these six things, one is incapable of entering and remaining in the first jhāna."
[1] See the definition of sensuality in AN 6:63.
