Upāsaka Vipatti Suttaṃ

[28.1][pts] EVAṂ ME SUTAṂ.|| ||

Sāvatthi nidānaṃ|| ||

Satt'ime bhikkhave, dhammā upāsakassa vipattiyo saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Katame satta?|| ||

2. Bhikkhu dassanaṃ hāpeti.|| ||

Sad'Dhamma-savaṇaṃ pamajjati.|| ||

Adisīle na sikkhati.|| ||

A-p-pasāda-bahulo hoti bhikkhūsu theresu c'eva||
navesu ca||
majjhamesu ca.|| ||

Upārambha-citto Dhammaṃ suṇāti randha-gavesī.|| ||

Ito ca bahiddhā dakkhiṇeyyaṃ gavesati.|| ||

Idha ca pubba-kāraṃ karoti.|| ||

Ime kho bhikkhave, satta dhammā upāsakassa vipattiyo saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Satt'imi bhikkhave, dhammā upāsakassa sampattiyo saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Katame satta?|| ||

Bhikkhu-dassanaṃ na hāpeti.|| ||

Sad'Dhamma-savaṇaṃ na p-pamajjati.|| ||

Adhisīle sikkhati.|| ||

Pasāda-bahulo hoti bhikkhūsu theresu c'eva||
navesu ca||
majjhamesu ca.|| ||

Anupārambha-citto Dhammaṃ suṇāti na randha-gavesī.|| ||

Na ito bahiddhā dakkhiṇeyyaṃ gavesati.|| ||

Idha ca pubba-kāraṃ karoti.|| ||

Ime kho bhikkhave, satta dhammā upāsakassa sampattiyo saṃvaṭṭantī ti.|| ||

Dassanaṃ bhāvit'attāṇaṃ yo hāpeti upāsako,||
Savaṇaṃ ca ariya-Dhammānaṃ adisile na sikkhati.|| ||

Appasādo ca bhikkhūsu bhiyyo bhiyyo pavaḍḍhati,||
Upārambha-citto ca Sad'Dhammaṃ sotumicchati.|| ||

Ito ca bhahiddhā aññaṃ dakkhiṇeyyaṃ gavesati,||
Tatth'eva ca pubba-kāraṃ yo karoti upāsako,|| ||

Ete kho parihānīye satta dhamme sudesite,||
Upāsako seva-māno Sad'Dhammā parihāyati.|| ||

Dassanaṃ bhāvit'attāṇaṃ yo na hāpeti upāsako,||
Savaṇaṃ ca ariya-Dhammānaṃ adhisīle ca sikkhati.|| ||

Pasādo c'assa bhikkhūsu bhiyyo bhiyyo pavaḍḍhati,||
Anupārambha-citto ca Sad'Dhammaṃ sotumicchati.|| ||

Na ito bahiddhā aññaṃ dakkhiṇeyyaṃ gavesati,||
Idh'eva ca pubba-kāraṃ yo karoti upāsako.|| ||

Ete ko aparihānīye satta dhamme sudesite,||
Upāsako seva-māno Sad'Dhammā na parihāyatī ti.|| ||

Satt'ime bhikkhave, dhammā upāsakassa parābhavā saṃvaṭṭanti.|| ||

Katame satta?|| ||

2. Bhikkhu dassanaṃ hāpeti.|| ||

Sad'Dhamma-savaṇaṃ pamajjati.|| ||

Adisīle na sikkhati.|| ||

A-p-pasāda-bahulo hoti bhikkhūsu theresu c'eva||

[ed1] It is possible that the missing 3rd sutta here is indicated by the discrepancy in versions pointed out by Hardy where in S. the second sutta begins with 'asambhavā' rather than the text's parābhavā. The alternative may have been 'sambhava' and 'asambhava': rebirth and no rebirth.
