Rāgassa Abhiññāya Suttaṃ 1
Full Understanding of Passion 1
[361.1] Thus have I heard:
Once the Exalted One dwelt near Sāvatthī;
and there he addressed the monks, saying:
"Monks."
'Yes, lord,' they replied;
and the Exalted One said:
''Monks, for the full understanding of passion
five things ought to be made to become.
What five?
The thought of the unattractive,
of death,
of perils,
of the cloying of food,
of there being no real joy in the whole world.
Verily, monks, for the full understanding of passion
these five things ought to be made to become.'

Renunciation of Passion 1
[406.1] Thus have I heard:
Once the Exalted One dwelt near Sāvatthī;
and there he addressed the monks, saying:
"Monks."
'Yes, lord,' they replied;
and the Exalted One said:
''Monks, for the renunciation of passion
five things ought to be made to become.
What five?
The thought of the unattractive,
of death,
of perils,
of the cloying of food,
of there being no real joy in the whole world.
Verily, monks, for the renunciation of passion
these five things ought to be made to become.'

[407.1] Thus have I heard:

The thought of impermanence,
of no-self,
of death,
of the cloying of food,
of there being no real joy in the whole world.
Verily, monks, for the renunciation of passion
these five things ought to be made to become.'

Of impermanence,
of ill in impermanence,
of there being no-self in ill,
of renunciation,
of dispassion.
Verily, monks, for the renunciation of passion
these five things ought to be made to become.'

The governance by faith,
the governance by energy,
the governance by mindfulness,
the governance by concentration
the governance by insight.
Verily, monks, for the renunciation of passion
these five things ought to be made to become.'
