Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.
There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:
"Monks."
"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:
"Monks, save one give up six things,
one cannot realize the fruit of the Non-returner.
What six?
Disbelief,
shamelessness,
recklessness,
indolence,
forgetfulness in mindfulness
and foolishness.
Verily, monks, save one give up these six things,
one cannot realize the fruit of the Non-returner.'
§
But if one give up them six things,
one can realize the fruit of the Non-returner.
What six?
Disbelief,
shamelessness,
recklessness,
indolence,
forgetfulness in mindfulness
and foolishness.
Verily, monks, if one gives up these six things,
one can realize the fruit of the Non-returner.'
