Decay-and-Death
[71.1][bodh] Thus have I heard:
The Exalted One was once staying near Sāvatthī
at the Jeta Grove in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.
And there the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:
"Brethren!"
"Master!" responded those brethren.
The Exalted One said:
"Any recluses or brahmins whatsoever, brethren,
who know not decay-and-death,
know not the arising of decay-and-death,
know not the cessation of decay-and-death,
know not the way leading to the cessation of decay-and-death -
those recluses or brahmins
are not approved as recluses among recluses
nor as brahmins among brahmins,
nor have those venerable ones attained to
and realized for themselves
in this present life
the good of being either recluse or brahmin.
And any recluses or brahmins, whatsoever, brethren,
who know decay-and-death,
know the arising of decay-and-death,
know the cessation of decay-and-death,
know the way leading to the cessation of decay-and-death -
they, even those recluses, or those brahmins,
are approved as recluses among recluses
and as brahmins among brahmins,
and those venerable ones have attained to
and realized for themselves
in this present life
the good of being either recluse or brahmin."

in this present life
the good of being either recluse or brahmin.
