[1] Thus have I heard:
The Exalted One was once staying near Sāvatthī
at the Jeta Grove in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.
And there the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:
"Brethren!"
"Master!" responded those brethren.
The Exalted One said:
"For that which is without a self, brethren,
there desire and lust should be put away by you.
And what, brethren, is without a self?
Body, brethren, is without a self.
Ye should put away desire and lust there.
Feeling is without a self.
Ye should put away desire and lust there.
Perception is without a self.
Ye should put away desire and lust there.
The activities is without a self.
Ye should put away desire and lust there.
Consciousness is without a self.
Ye should put away desire and lust there.
Whatsoever, brethren, is without a self,
there ye should put away desire and lust."
