[1][bodh][than] Thus have I heard:
The Exalted One was once staying near Sāvatthī, at Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.
Then the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:
"Brethren."
"Lord," responded those brethren to the Exalted One.
The Exalted One said:
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the eye,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
■
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the ear,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
■
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the nose,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
■
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the tongue,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
■
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the body,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
■
"Whoso, Brethren, takes delight in the mind,
takes delight in ill.
Whoso takes delight in ill,
is not released from ill,
I declare.
§
But whoso takes not delight in the eye,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare.
■
But whoso takes not delight in the ear,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare.
■
But whoso takes not delight in the nose,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare.
■
But whoso takes not delight in the tongue,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare.
■
But whoso takes not delight in the body,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare.
■
But whoso takes not delight in the mind,
takes no delight in ill.
Whoso takes no delight in ill,
is released from ill,
I declare."
