[1][bodh] Thus have I heard:

The Exalted One was once staying near Sāvatthī, at Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

Then the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:

"Brethren."

"Lord," responded those brethren to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One thus spake:

"I will show you, Brethren, a teaching for the comprehension of all attachment.

Listen to it.

What is that teaching for the comprehension of all attachment?

Dependent on the eye and object
arises eye-consciousness.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the eye,
is repelled by objects,
is repelled by eye-consciousness,
is repelled by eye-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

Dependent on the ear and sounds
arises ear-consciousness.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the ear,
is repelled by sounds,
is repelled by ear-consciousness,
is repelled by ear-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

Dependent on the nose and scents
arises the sense of smell.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the nose,
is repelled by scents,
is repelled by nose-consciousness,
is repelled by nose-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

Dependent on the tongue and savours
arises the sense of taste.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the tongue,
is repelled by savours,
is repelled by tongue-consciousness,
is repelled by tongue-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

Dependent on the body and tangibles
arises the sense of touch.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the body,
is repelled by tangibles,
is repelled by body-consciousness,
is repelled by body-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

Dependent on the mind and mind-states
arises mind-consciousness.

The union of these three is contact.

Dependent on contact is feeling.

So seeing, the well-taught Ariyan disciple
is repelled by the mind,
is repelled by mind-states,
is repelled by mind-consciousness,
is repelled by mind-contact,
is repelled by feeling.

Being repelled by them
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting
he is set free.

By freedom he realizes:

'Attachment has been comprehended by me.'

This, Brethren, is the teaching for the comprehension of all attachment."
