Once the Exalted One was staying near Sāvatthī.
Then the Exalted One addressed the monks,
saying:
"Monks."
"Yes, lord," replied those monks to the Exalted One.
The Exalted One said:
"These eight conditions, monks,
not having yet arisen,
when cultivated and made much of,
come into being,
but only on the arising of the Tathāgata,
an arahant,
a fully enlightened one.
What eight?
Right view,
right aim,
right speech,
right action,
right living,
right effort,
right mindfulness,
right concentration.
These are the eight conditions, monks,
not having yet arisen,
when cultivated and made much of,
come into being,
but only on the arising of the Tathāgata,
an arahant,
a fully enlightened one."
