Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.
There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:
"Monks."
"Yes, lord," they replied, and the Exalted One said:
"Monks, there are these five perfectings.
What five?
The perfecting of faith,
of virtue, of learning,
of charity
and the perfecting of insight.[2]
Verily, monks, these are the five perfectings.
[2] Sampadā, or accomplishments or achievements. 'Charity' is literally 'giving' (dana); is in no way connected with love (agape).
