[1] THUS have I heard:

Once the Exalted One said this:

2. "Monks, by not abandoning these ten conditions
one cannot grow[1] to realize arahantship.

What ten?

3. Passion,
malice,
delusion,
wrath,
grudge,
depreciation,
spite,
jealousy,
stinginess.

Monks, by not abandoning these ten
one cannot grow to realize arahantship.

4. Monks, by abandoning these ten conditions
one can grow to realize arahantship.

What ten?

5. Passion,
malice,
delusion,
wrath,
grudge,
depreciation,
spite,
jealousy,
stinginess.
