Sutta 139:

Impermanance in Respect of Shapes

[139.1] 'Monks, there are these seven persons,
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,
the world's peerless field for merit.

What seven?

Monks, herein a monk abides seeing the impermanence of shapes
conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

He by destroying the cankers,
he enters and abides in the cankerless mind-emancipation,
wisdom-emancipation,
here and now,
realizing it himself by knowledge;
attains emancipation eve in this life.

This then monks, is the first person
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,
the world's peerless field for merit.

 


 

Again, monks, a monk abides seeing the impermanence of shapes
conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

This one attains emancipation and death at the same time.

This then monks, is the second person
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,
the world's peerless field for merit.

 


 

Again, monks, a monk abides seeing the impermanence of shapes
conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

He destroys the five lower fetters and becomes completely cool after an interval.

This then monks, is the third person
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,

aware of it,
at all times,

without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

He becomes completely cool after lessening his period.

This then monks, is the fourth person
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,

Ill in Respect of Shapes

[140.1] 'Monks, there are these seven persons,
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,
the world's peerless field for merit.

What seven?

Monks, herein a monk abides seeing the ill of shapes
conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

He by destroying the cankers,
he enters and abides in the cankerless mind-emancipation,
wisdom-emancipation,
here and now,
realizing it himself by knowledge;
attains emancipation eve in this life.

This then monks, is the first person
worthy of offerings,
worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,

conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

worthy of gifts,
worthy of oblations,
the world's peerless field for merit.

conscious of it,
aware of it,
at all times,
continually,
without a break,
marking it mentally,
fathoming it by wisdom.

He by destroying the cankers,
he enters and abides in the cankerless mind-emancipation,
wisdom-emancipation,

realizing it himself by knowledge;
attains emancipation eve in this life.
