XIV: The Seemly (a)
Pain and Pleasure
Translated from the Pali by F. L. Woodward, M.A.
 THUS have I heard:
Once the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:
"Yes, lord," they replied, and the Exalted One said:
"Monks, I will teach you dhamma whose fruit is pain and dhamma whose fruit is pleasure.
Do ye listen to it.
Pay attention carefully and I will speak."
"We will, sir,' replied those monks to the Exalted One,
who said this:
"And what, monks, is dhamma whose fruit is pain?
This is called 'dhamma whose fruit is pain'
And what, monks, is dhamma whose fruit is pleasure?
This is called 'dhamma whose fruit is pleasure'".
